ABOUT THE COMPANY AND CULTURE
Kabod Group is Muna Kalati's parent company. While Kabod focuses on language services, Muna Kalati specializes in early childhood education. Muna Kalati was founded in 2017, when authors of children's stories weren’t highly regarded and when access to quality stories for children was complicated. After spending several years advocating for the use of local languages in early childhood education, organizing book donation programs and reading workshops with children, we finally realized that access remained a significant challenge.
Most of the parents and schools we were serving expressed how challenging it was to find a culturally relevant children's book in their country. Book fairs were the major ways they had access to a vast catalog of children's stories, since about 91% of African publishers don’t offer the possibility of purchasing eBooks or audiobooks. We therefore created the MK App to enable thousands of parents and schools to access storybooks, audiobooks, animated films, cartoons, and learning videos for 4 African languages: Twi, Hausa, Yoruba, and Swahili.
Therefore, this position requires someone passionate about Afrocentric education, who loves children and believes in making positive change by providing quality resources and stories that reflect our children's history, culture, and identity. Coco melon, Peter Pan, Harry Potter, Mickey Mouse are good, but not enough compared to Kweku Ananse, Wakanda, etc.
We are building a world where children and young adults, whether in Africa or the diaspora, can find and consume content that positively reflects their past, present, and future. As a man thinks, so he is. What we read, listen to, and watch greatly influences who we become. We can’t groom great and confident leaders in Africa with content, curriculum, and languages that are not indigenous.
If you believe in this vision and want to be part of the team working to make it a reality through your marketing and sales skills, then this position is for you. You will mainly help acquire more content from animation studios and publishers while also accelerating downloads and user adoption of our content and language learning resources.
